Frenchy Trenchy

When I think of the Trench Coat there are only two ways of wearing it that come to mind, the military style with medals, leather boots and those' jaunty' jodhpurs, or the very dodgy Benny Hill flasher in the park chasing equally scantily clad girls, don’t ask me why?? (and we definitely don't need a visual!) But thanks to the cool girl from Paris there is third option, phew!

Three tips for wearing your Trench Coat, Frenchy Style

1. Never button up to the neck and belt it through the buckle (ok, not following protocol can be dangerous, but I can live on the edge!)

 Wrap it!

Wrap it!

2. Tie the belt instead, either at the front if you're wearing it closed or at the back if you want to leave it open at the front, so as to look like you live your life so irreverently you just don’t have time to belt it properly. (ok, so that I can do, maybe without the irreverence but I can definitely tick the time poor box)

 Tie it!

3. And finally, push up the sleeves. (Well at least I’ll look like I’m ready to get stuck in!)

 Push it!

Voila! So easy, and so much more relaxed, you'll be wondering why you insisted on feeling like an over trussed chicken before discovering this little French secret.

Now that I've imparted this last style tip from our Parisienne sisters, I'm a bit sad to say this is the last post in my 'Frenchy' series. It's been so much fun and I've loved all the wonderful feedback from you, my lovely Gold Dusters. I'm leaving you with my book inspiration I've used during my Gallic transformation below which includes Parisian Chic by Ines de la Fressange, The Little Paris Kitchen by Rachel Khoo and How to be Parisian by Sophie Mas, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Maigret and Anne Berest. And on the web please have a look at the fabulously cool Garance Dore

Finally, just one last photo to prove I've really embraced my Frenchy obsession and turned it into a whole new look that I'll be loving for some time yet. And yes the locals driving on the round-a-bout did wonder who that tit was in the trench coat, positively beaming on a balmy spring evening in Daylesford.

But wait there's more! As habit permits I've included some great trench options over on Pinterest, some are just for dreaming and some are ready to wear right now. Enjoy!

Au revoir,

See you next week, Jesse x
